FAQ 4 Day Trek
1. How hard is the 4 day jungle trek in Sumatra?
The 4 day trek is moderately challenging, mainly due to heat, humidity, and uneven jungle terrain, rather than long distances. Some guests may find sleeping in the jungle difficult, which after 3 nights can really start to impact hiking stamina. With all this said, the trek is paced carefully, with regular breaks, and routes are adjusted on group ability and weather conditions.
2. What animals will I see on the 4 day trek in Bukit Lawang?
Many guests see orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, hornbills, snakes and jungle insects. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but spending four days in the jungle significantly increases the chances compared to shorter treks.
3. Where do you sleep on a 4 day jungle trek?
You will sleep in four different jungle camps, fitted with semi permanent tents, mosquito nets, blankets foam mattresses and pillows. The camps are usually located by the river allowing for natural bathing in the fresh water, whilst a simple toilet station is located near the tents.
4. Do you need to be very fit to do a 4 day jungle trek?
You do not need to be extremely fit, or have significant trekking experience, however a reasonable level of fitness is very important. If you are comfortable walking 6 hours a day and can cope with warm, humid conditions then the trek will be achievable. Our guiding team continuously assesses the group and adapts the pace as needed.
5. Are there toilets on a 4 day jungle trek?
Most first and second day camps are fitted with simple jungle toilets; day 3 onwards there are no physical toilets in the jungle. Our guides will explain how to manage toilet breaks discreetly and hygienically, using natural colver and proper practices.
